R. DOUGLAS MARTIN is a commercial real estate attorney and business lawyer with more than 33 years’ experience in the practice of law. He previously served as General Counsel to the KY Cabinet for Economic Development during the Jones Administration, and served four (4) years as the 10th District representative to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council. Doug holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kentucky, an MM from the University of Michigan, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Kentucky College of Law. As an undergraduate, he received the Diachun Award for Most Outstanding UK Honors Program Senior. During law school, he published articles on banking law and securities fraud while a member of the Kentucky Law Journal, and was awarded the Rouse Award for the Most Scholarly Contribution to the Kentucky Law Journal.
Doug has served three terms as Chair of the Business Law Section for the Kentucky Bar Association, and is a frequent speaker and author on business law, commercial real estate, and government financial incentives. Since 2008, he has Chaired the University of Kentucky’s Biennial Real Estate Law Institute, and regularly serves on the planning committees for the University of Kentucky Biennial Business Associations Law Institute and the Kentucky Commercial Real Estate Conference.
