R. DOUGLAS MARTIN is a business and commercial real estate attorney in Lexington, Kentucky with more than 36 years’ experience in the practice of law. He has worked for several of Kentucky’s largest law firms, and focuses his practice primarily on commercial real estate leasing and acquisitions, condominium law, business formations and acquisitions, owners’ associations, and estate planning and probate. He previously served as General Counsel to the KY Cabinet for Economic Development, and served 4 years as the 10th District representative to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council.

He has been named a Master of the Bar in the Central Kentucky Chapter of the American Inns of Court, a national association of lawyers, judges, and attorneys dedicated to professional excellence.
Doug holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kentucky, an MM from the University of Michigan, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Kentucky College of Law. As an undergraduate, he received the Diachun Award for Outstanding UK Honors Program Senior. During law school, he published articles on banking law and securities fraud while a member of the Kentucky Law Journal, and was awarded the Rouse Award for the Most Scholarly Contribution to the Kentucky Law Journal.
Doug has served three terms as Chair of the Business Law Section for the Kentucky Bar Association, and is a frequent speaker and author on business law, commercial real estate, and government financial incentives. From 2008 to 2023 he served as Chair and Moderator of the University of Kentucky’s Biennial Real Estate Law Institute, and for many years served on the planning committees for the University of Kentucky Biennial Business Associations Law Institute and the Kentucky Commercial Real Estate Conference.
